For healthy scalp, shiny full-bodied hair, throw away those toxic damaging drying chemicals.
It’s simple: Healthy scalp = healthy hair.
The secret of healthy hair, and most importantly healthy scalp are 4 simple steps:
1. Scalp massage and hairbrushing to stimulate to stimulate the scalp (and blood flow to the roots, which in turn produces growth of healthy well nourished hair) spreading the hair’s natural conditioner (oil) to condition the scalp and hair.
A weekly scalp massage with our Aromatic Hair Shine drops – rich in highly penetrative jojoba castor oils, and essential oils chosen for their hair regenerative qualities- works wonders to help to increase hair growth by stimulating blood flow to the hair follicles, loosening debris and moisturizing the scalp.
How? Simply place a drop or two on the pads of the fingers (keep off palms as it will be wasted there) and work into the roots of the hair and scalp, repeating as necessary.
Drop head forward to maximize blood flow to hair roots and starting at the crown move fingertips firmly outwards in tight circular /zig zag movements- allow your scalp to loosen and move with your fingers. Do this for about 10 minutes- SO relaxing and soothing, try giving your partner one and even better they will reciprocate! It is even better if you leave the treatment in overnight ( use a towel over your pillow just in case) and shampoo out in the morning.
2. Natural shampoo bar with olive oil and herb infusions to gently cleanse and moisturise See below for shampoo bars FAQ
3. Natural conditioning with mineral/potassium rich Apple Cider and Herb Vinegar Conditioning Rinse which removes dulling product residues, and moisturizes hair and scalp, and detangles.
4. Hairbrushing: First it is simply imperative that you use a natural boar bristle, high quality brush, such as our Mason Pearson Brush which is extremely high quality ( established in 1885, so they know a thing or two about hairbrushes!) and rubber cushioned so as to shape to your scalp, and gently stimulate rather than scratch as cheap synthetic/plastic brushes do.Also, always brush hair dry, as wet hair is too fragile.
Brushing your hair the old-fashioned way a 100 strokes a day, briskly from root to tip with your head bent forward to maximize healthy bloodflow to the roots, promoting healthy growth- creating thicker and faster growing hair too…it.was the old fashioned way, and still the best!
Brushing stimulates production of naturally occurring oils ( sebum) and working it systematically through the hair conditions, seals and lubricates each hair shaft naturally.
This results in smoother, healthier hair that is soft and manageable, heathy and shiny.
However take it very easy if your hair is in poor condition at first as strand breakages may occur until the condition improves.
If you do this first thing in the morning it is a great way to wake up, and is incredibly relaxing at the end of the day.
Back to the future – these techniques were used for hundreds of years (before profitable detergents) to keep hair shiny healthy and soft, just like Granny did.
Our Natural Shampoo bars are:
- totally concentrated shampoo, with minimal water content, great value.
- bio-degradable and eco-friendly
- ethically handmade with NO PALM OIL
- no: synthetic antioxidants, optical brighteners, maturing stabilisers, hardeners, sodium lauryl sulphate (synthetic lathering agent/detergent), animal products, or palm oil
- the colour of the bar is from the natural waxes, spices, herbs and essential oils used to handmake it
Users report that:
- dry, sore, itchy, flaky scalp conditions (often caused/ aggravated by the drying, synthetic products found in commercial shampoo) improve almost immediately
- hair returns to a healthy state with natural bounce and shine
- hair needs to be washed MUCH less frequently, saving money and time.
Don’t use our Shampoo Bars just once or twice – Give them a chance!!
Most people report positive results after just 1-2 washings.
However, at least 3-4 washings are needed to remove previous products from the hair.
If you use synthetic hair styling products such as gel or wax, it’s important to use the Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse for best results.
You will notice that your hair looks and behaves very differently as it returns to its natural “unstripped” state- much softer, finer and shinier.
Q: What is a 100% natural solid shampoo bar and why should I use one?
A: First about Commercial Shampoos (human or pet):
Apart from being 98% water, they contain many toxic and environmentally destructive chemicals such as the foaming agents sodium laureth sulphate and cocamide betaine. These are strong chemical de-greasers/detergents, originally designed to clean oily engines!
They strip the hair of up to 80% of its natural oils and moisture, often result in sore, dry, itchy, flaky scalp/skin/hair conditions, and irritate the eyes.
Sadly, these foaming agents are used because consumers seem to believe incorrectly, that a lot of lather means a shampoo is working well. And of course they are very cheap!
Chemical detergents-invented only 50 or so years ago-are far less bio-degradable than natural soaps (which have been used by humans for literally thousands of years), and are harmful to marine life and the environment.
Detergents pollute our waterways, producing algal blooms that kill wild life, essentially doing exactly the same damage as phosphate laden laundry and household detergents.
In addition to detergents, commercial shampoos contain strong petrochemically-derived preservatives to prevent mould, and synthetic fragrances.
The same applies to commercial ‘conditioners’, which closely resemble the fabric conditioners in both structure and chemical content, and simply coat the hair with a form of silicone plasticiser to make it ‘shine’.
The answer? A super rich, solid shampoo bar
Refusing to poison ourselves & our environment, we handmake 100% chemical free, luxurious, superfatted (rich in beneficial oils), pure soap shampoo bar.
We use a centuries-old traditional formula, with special essential oils and/or herb infusions to offer specific benefits, documented for generations.
We use only the finest raw materials conditioning plant oils such as castor bean, olive and coconut oils , Leatherwood Beeswax and Honey, which help retain the lustre, natural oils and softness in the hair.
Q: How do you actually use the bars, and do they lather well?
A: Simply wet the hair, and rub the bar directly through the hair and work up a good lather with the pads of your fingers (do not use fingernails).
You will be amazed at how luxuriously decadent the lather is, and how easily it rinses out!
The natural plant oils in the shampoo, especially castor bean, produce a rich, dense, creamy moisturising lather which gently yet effectively cleanses, nourishes and moisturizes, leaving your hair clean, soft and shiny.
For best results, use Apple Cider Vinegar & Herb Rinse (2-3 tablespoons mixed in 1 litre of water) as the final rinse to remove remaining soap film, which can dull the hair.

Q: Can I use the shampoo bars with colour treated, bleached, permed or otherwise chemically treated hair?
A: Absolutely!
Users report that their hair colour lasts much longer, and that even bleached hair softens in colour, and that the general condition of their hair improves dramatically.
Q: How long do the bars last?
A: This is difficult to answer as it depends on how long and thick the hair is, and how often the hair is washed.
A regular user reports that his Beer shampoo lasts for six months!
Remember that our shampoo bars are totally concentrated shampoo, with minimal water content. With proper use & care ( kept dry between uses on one of our Huon Pine Soap Savers) they should last for a long time.
And there is no plastic bottle to pollute the earth after the shampoo is used up.
Q: Will I need to wash my hair more often?
A: On the contrary, MUCH LESS!
Users report that their hair and scalp stay clean longer, so they reduce hair washing frequency dramatically.
Some users go from daily washing to twice a week or less, saving money and improving their hair condition considerably. This is because the hair is not being totally degreased and stripped, just gently cleansed.
Q: What about conditioner, and any soap residue left on the hair, tangles?
A: Conditioners are generally needed because when the hair is washed with commercial shampoos containing detergents, tangles result.
Why?
The hair shaft, under a microscope, looks like overlapping fish scales (cuticles).
When dry, the cuticles lie flat and are smooth, and reflect light well so the hair appears to be shiny.
When wet /shampooed (particularly with a commercial shampoo) the cuticles swell, lift and open, roughening the hair surface, and tangles/dullness result.
Additionally, sometimes residues are left on the hair which need rinsing out.
Hard water makes this worse.
To smooth the cuticles, rinse out any remaining soap, and restore pH balance, we strongly recommend a simple natural acidulated cider vinegar rinse (2-3 tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar in 1 litre of warm water).
The easy way to do this is to put a couple of tablespoons of Applecider and Herb Rinse into the bottom of a litre/2 litre plastic jug, and fill from the showerhead , and use when finished- pour over head, face and body. Use this as the final rinse to achieve naturally glossy and soft, and easier to comb hair.
The slight smell of vinegar disappears when hair is dry, but if you wish to rinse again under the showerhead, the choice is yours.
